SYMPTOMS

When you create a Microsoft Access run-time package, Access can become unresponsive and appear to hang.

CAUSE

You have started the Packaging Wizard as an add-in from within the Visual Basic Environment (VBE) window associated with Microsoft Access. The first time a package is created with the Access Run-Time included, the Packaging Wizard copies all of the Access Run-Time and Office System Pack files from the Office XP installation source to a destination on the computer's local hard disk drive. This process can be time consuming, depending on the computer's speed and the installation point (CD or Network installation).

RESOLUTION

Start the Packaging Wizard from the Start menu; that is, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office XP Developer, and then click Packaging Wizard. By starting the wizard in this manner, you avoid the issue outlined in the "Symptoms" section. It will still take the same amount of time for the Packaging Wizard to copy the needed files, but Access will not be affected. Subsequent starts of the Packaging Wizard from within Access through the VBE add-in will not exhibit the behavior.

NOTE: The first time that you run the Packaging Wizard, insert the Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage CD from the left hand side of the Office XP Developer CD box, and then click OK.
