OFFXPDEV: Offline Replication Not Available for Use with SQL Server Workflow Solutions (291399)

SYMPTOMS

When you create workflow solutions by using the Workflow Designer for SQL Server in Microsoft Office XP Developer, there is no option to create offline publications. In addition, offline replication is no longer available for use within SQL Server workflow solutions.

CAUSE

When you convert SQL Server workflow solutions from Microsoft Office 2000 Developer to Microsoft Office XP Developer, offline publications are automatically removed from the workflow solution. In addition, offline replication is no longer available.

For new SQL Server workflow solutions, offline replication is no longer available, and you are unable to create offline publications.

STATUS

This change in functionality is by design.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. In Microsoft Office 2000 Developer, deploy the Issue Tracking application by using the Team Solutions Manager.
  2. In the Workflow Designer, note the offline publication named AllIssues.
  3. In Microsoft Office 2000 Developer, start the Team Solutions Manager.
  4. Specify the appropriate workflow server name, and then click Refresh.
  5. Click the Templates tab.
  6. Click Issue Tracking.
  7. Click Export to File.
  8. Copy the .tpl file (template) to the computer on which Microsoft Office XP Developer is installed.
  9. On the computer on which Microsoft Office XP Developer Workflow Services for SQL Server is installed, use the Workflow Manager for SQL Server to import the template (.tpl) from Microsoft Office 2000 Developer for the Issue Tracking application. Click the Templates tab, and then, click Import from File. Specify the location to the Issue Tracking template file.
  10. On the computer on which Microsoft Office XP Developer Workflow Services for SQL Server is installed, use the Workflow Manager for SQL Server to deploy the Issue Tracking application. After successfully importing the Issue Tracking template into the Workflow Manager for SQL Server, click the Instantiate Template button. Complete the wizard.
  11. Open the Issue Tracking application in the Microsoft Developer Environment. In the Solution Explorer, note that no offline publication exists and that you cannot add new offline publications.
