Dcdiag Connectivity Test Does Not Succeed and Displays "')" for the Host Name (291383)

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Dcdiag.exe tool, you may receive an error message similar to:
Starting test: Connectivity
* Active Directory LDAP Services Check
The host ') could not be resolved to a valid IP address.
Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc.
......................... hostname failed test Connectivity
Note that "')" is displayed instead of a host name. Other ASCII characters besides "')" (for example, "?%") may also be displayed instead of the host name.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the variable for the server name is not properly sent to the output device.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
