SYMPTOMS

If you use a Microsoft Visual Basic User Defined Function in a calculated member, and then the calculated member is used in a Pivot Table control in either Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Internet Explorer, an "Application Error" may occur when you exit Microsoft Excel or Internet Explorer.

RESOLUTION

SQL Server 2000 (Analysis Services)

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (the Analysis Services Components - Sql2kasp1.exe). For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

Use the Msvbvm60.dll (version 6.0.88.77) Visual Basic run-time file in Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4).

This problem was first corrected in the Analysis Services Components of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.

You can extend the list of built-in functions by creating libraries of functions using the Component Object Model (COM) in Microsoft Visual Basic. You can register these libraries and use your functions in calculated member definitions and other expressions written in Multi-dimensional Expressions (MDX).
