FIX: Query Analyzer Hangs After You Drag & Drop Files Into the Query Editor and You Close One of the Newly Created Windows (291235)

SYMPTOMS

If you drag and drop more than 50 files at one time into the Editor pane of the Query Analyzer, a new query editor opens for each of the files. If you then attempt to close one of the windows by clicking the Close button of the query window, Query Analyzer may stop responding (hang). When you are using a Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98-based computer, the Query Analyzer may generate a General Protection Fault or blue screen instead.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.

In the specific reproduction scenario on file for this bug 75 script files, totaling about 239 kilobytes (KB) of text, were shared from a second computer. To reproduce the problem, follow these steps:
  1. Open the SQL Query Analyzer and make one connection to SQL Server server.
  2. Open Microsoft Windows Explorer, connect to the Sharepoint, highlight the files, and then drag & drop the files into the Query editor of Query Analyzer.
  3. Click the Close button of one of the Query editor windows to close the window. Note that you may have to repeat this step a few times.
RESULT: Query Analyzer stops responding (hangs).
