Cannot forward or reply to Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension signed mails by using OWA (291129)

SYMPTOMS

When you view received messages in Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), and the messages were composed by using clear text and digitally signed, the message content is visible in the OWA preview pane, but when you attempt to forward or reply to the message, the content may be lost. The following warning messages regarding the ability of OWA to handle digitally signed and encrypted messages are displayed:
This message is clear text signed. The signature has not been verified and message content will not be carried forward on a reply or forward.

This message is encrypted or digitally signed. Outlook Web Access is unable to display its contents.

RESOLUTION

This problem is resolved in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Outlook Web Access. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use clients that are capable of processing digitally signed and encrypted messages, such as Microsoft Outlook.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

This problem was first corrected in Exchange Server 2003.
