SUMMARY
This article explains how to send a document as e-mail
directly from Microsoft Word.
Send a Document Directly from Word as E-Mail
To send your document directly from Word as an e-mail message,
follow these steps:
- On the File menu, point to Send To, and then click Mail Recipient to send the document as the body of the message, or point to
Mail Recipient (as Attachment) to send the document as an
attachment to the message.
NOTE: If Send To is not available on the File menu, you must install Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook
Express, or a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI)-compliant
third-party e-mail program. For more information about Microsoft Outlook and
Microsoft Outlook Express, see the Install an
E-mail Program section of this article. - If the Choose Profile box appears, select Default Outlook Profile or another valid profile that you have created, and then click OK.
Word adds an e-mail header to the document. - Type the e-mail name of the recipient on the To line, or select the e-mail name from your Address Book.
- Type a subject for the e-mail on the Subject line.
- Click Send a Copy if you want to send the
document as the e-mail body, or click Send if you want to send the document as an attachment.

Install an E-mail Program
The two most common Microsoft e-mail programs are Microsoft
Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express, both of which support the use of the
Send To command in Word. This section describes installation of Microsoft
Outlook.

Install Microsoft Outlook
The following instructions apply only to Word 2002 as part of
Microsoft Office XP.
To install Microsoft Outlook, follow these
steps:
- Quit all Office programs.
- Do one of the following:
- In Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium
Edition (Me), Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, or Microsoft Windows 2000, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Microsoft Windows XP, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Do one of the following:
- In Windows 98, Windows Me, or Windows NT 4.0:
On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Office XP in the list of installed programs, and then click Add/Remove.
-or- - In Windows 2000 or Windows XP:
In the
Currently installed components list, click Microsoft Office XP, and then click Change.
- In the Microsoft Office XP Setup dialog box, click Add or Remove Features, and
then click Next.
- Click the icon for Microsoft Outlook for
Windows, and then on the menu that appears, click Run from My
Computer.
- Click Update.
