New IAS Values in Ascend-Data-Svc Attributes (290924)

SYMPTOMS

If you are using a dial-in router from Ascend and Microsoft Internet Authentication Service (IAS) for authentication, callback does not appear to work.

CAUSE

The Ascend dial-in router requires an additional vendor-specific parameter for callback to work.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

After installing the hotfix, make the following configuration change:
  1. Start the IAS Administration tool.
  2. View the properties of the dial-in profile, click Edit Profile, and then click the Advanced tab.
  3. Click Add, scroll down to Ascend-Data-Svc, and then click Add to open the Multivalued attribute value selection box.
  4. Click Add to view the list of values. The choice of values has been extended. For example, for callbacks over a modem, click the Switch-Modem value.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
