The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0

This article was previously published under Q290870

SYMPTOMS

WM_TIMER timer messages may stop being delivered to programs. This can cause portions of programs to stop working. For example, if a program updates a window when it receives a WM_TIMER message, this window updating will stop. The GUI portion continues to work (for example, keystrokes and mouse clicks are still processed).

CAUSE

The calculation that determines how long it has been since the last timer event contains a logic error when the tick counter wraps after 49 days.
