WD2001: "Don't Print Blank Lines" Option Not Available When You Perform a Data Merge in Word 2001 (290823)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2001 for Macintosh

This article was previously published under Q290823

SYMPTOMS

When you merge your data in a data merge, the following options are not available in the Data Merge Manager:
  • Don't print blank lines when data fields are empty
  • Print blank lines when data fields are empty

WORKAROUND

When merging data, Word 2001 for Mac does not print blank lines when the field is empty. A workaround is available for selecting the option to print blank lines when data fields are empty. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In a Word data-merge main document that is ready to be merged, select Macro on the Tools menu, and then click Macros.
  2. In the Macros in list, select Word Commands.
  3. In the Macro name box, type MailMergeHelper, and then click Run.

NOTE: This does not select an item from the macro list.
  4. The Mail Merge Helper dialog box from Office 98 appears. Click the Merge button.
  5. In the Merge dialog box, select Print blank lines when data fields are empty.
