Underscore in a Network Resource Name for Windows 2000 Cluster Could Not Be Created (290816)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP2
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
This article was previously published under Q290816 SYMPTOMS
When you are using the Cluster Administration tool or Cluster.exe tool to try to add a network resource name that contains an underscore (_) character, you may receive an error message that indicates the resource name contains invalid characters.
CAUSE
The clustering code treats the underscore (_) character as an error, and does not permit their use. This is a regression from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, when the clustering code interpreted that underscore characters were allowed.
