OL2000: You Receive an Error Message When You Save an Appointment Item in the Calendar View (290669)

SYMPTOMS

If you modify an appointment item in the Calendar view and try to save the item without having edit permissions, you may receive the following error message:
Your changes could not be saved because you don't have permission to modify some or all of the items in this folder. Do you want to save a copy of this item in the default folder for the item?
If you click No, Microsoft Outlook does not quit even if you click Exit and Logoff.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an issue with Microsoft Outlook 2000. Outlook cannot release some resources if you do not save an item in the Calendar view.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not modify an appointment item in the Calendar view if you do not have edit permission for the item.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
