FIX: COM+ Error 80070057 "The Run-Time Environment Has Detected an Inconsistency in Its Internal State" (290513)

SYMPTOMS

A failfast occurs in COM+, and the following error is logged in the Windows NT application event log:
The run-time environment has detected an inconsistency in its internal state. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error. Error in .\jit.cpp(512), hr = 80070057: CJITActivation::CreateNextObject, CoReactivateObject failed

CAUSE

An access violation occurs in the CreateNextObject function of the just-in-time (JIT) activation code when the JIT code re-enters the single-threaded apartment (STA) because the application or the Microsoft virtual machine for Java (Microsoft VM) performs some message pumping.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
