SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Visio under the Microsoft Windows NT or Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system, you receive an error message similar to the following:
Error 1406: Could not write value Installed to key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Visio\Solution\DFD Solution\Supports Semantic Error Check. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
NOTE: The actual HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Visio\Solution registry key may vary.

CAUSE

This error message occurs when your Windows NT or Windows 2000 user profile does not have sufficient permissions to write the necessary keys to the Windows registry.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this error message, you must have Administrator privileges for the computer. Administrator privileges allow you to install software and to write to the Windows registry. Contact your network administrator for instructions.
