FIX: DTS Scheduled Job Does Not Complete After First Run (290077)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (all editions)

This article was previously published under Q290077
BUG #: 352074 (SHILOH_BUGS)

SYMPTOMS

When a scheduled job runs a Data Transformation Services (DTS) package that instantiates a Windows Scripting Host shell object, the Dtsrun.exe program may stop responding (hang). The actual package logic completes, but the Dtsrun.exe process does not complete.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, set all ActiveX scripting tasks that invoke the Windows Scripting Host shell object to execute on the main package thread. The fix provided by SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1, however, corrects this behavior even when the ActiveX script tasks execute on worker threads.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
