OL2002: GetSharedDefaultFolder Method Fails with Some Folder Types (290064)

SYMPTOMS

You use the GetSharedDefaultFolder method with the olFolderDeletedItems, olFolderOutbox, or olFolderSentMail constants, and receive the following error message:
Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid.

CAUSE

This is an error in the documentation. You cannot use the olFolderDeletedItems, olFolderOutbox, or olFolderSentMail constants with the GetSharedDefaultFolder method.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

You can use the GetSharedDefaultFolder method with the following folders:
  • Calendar
  • Tasks
  • Inbox
  • Contacts
  • Notes
  • Journal
These are the folders that are listed in the Outlook user interface when you assign delegate permissions to the folders.
