The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Small Business Server 2000
This article was previously published under Q290057 SYMPTOMS
After you restart your computer for the first time during the upgrade from Small Business Server (SBS) 4.5 to SBS 2000, you may receive a "One or more services failed to start" warning message. The System Log in Event Viewer logs the following error:
Event ID: 7003
Source: Service Control Manager
Description: The Microsoft Exchange Connector for POP3 Mailboxes service depends on the following nonexistent service: MSExchangeIMC
A series of 12050 and 12052 events may also be logged in the Application Log of Event Viewer, which indicates that the POP3 Connector was unable to connect to the POP3 server.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the Microsoft Exchange Connector for POP3 Mailboxes attempts to initialize, and then finds that the dependency service, Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail service, is not installed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, delete the Internet Mail service prior to the SBS 2000 upgrade.
STATUS
The behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
You can safely ignore this error message as it will not affect the SBS 2000 installation. During the upgrade, the POP3 Connector will be upgraded and you will not see the error again after you complete the upgrade.
