You receive an "Operation failed" error message during the synchronization process in Outlook (290037)

This article was previously published under Q290037 SYMPTOMS When you try to run a synchronization to work offline, the
following error message appears: Operation failed.
You may receive several error messages telling you that Microsoft
Outlook cannot synchronize. If you click Ignore for each message, eventually an error message states that the
operation has failed and Outlook will shut down. CAUSE This problem occurs when data in the Inbox, Deleted Items,
and Sent Items folders exceeds the permissible amount set by your mail
administrator. WORKAROUND To work around this probelm, clean out the Outlook folders
to reduce their size, and then press F9 to synchronize again. STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
