Existing contact's e-mail address generates error message after upgrade from Outlook 97 (290012)

SYMPTOMS

When you double-click a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail address for an existing Outlook 97 contact after you upgrade to Outlook 2002, you receive the following error message:
The name or distribution list has been deleted and is no longer a valid Address Book entry. The item could not be found.
This behavior occurs only after an upgrade from Outlook 97.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, type the contact's e-mail alias in the E-mail box, and then save the contact.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
