OL2002: Error Message When You Open a Secure E-mail from a Certificate Authority (290005)

On a computer that is not a member of a domain, when you open a secure e-mail message that has a certificate from a CA (Certificate Authority), you receive the following error message:
This certificate does not appear to be valid for the selected purpose.
When you open the same message on a computer that is joined to a domain, you do not receive the error message.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the signing certificate chain that is embedded in the message contains an invalid cross-reference.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
