256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry

After you remove a graphics program that you formerly used to handle all graphics file types, and you then reassociate graphics file types with Wang Imaging (a standard component of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0), you may receive the following error message when you try to use Internet Explorer 5.0 to open a .tif file:

No viewer available for the type of data you are trying to open. The content type is image/tif.

However, the Wang Imaging software opens the file successfully from the desktop.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the registry still contains data associated with the old graphics program.
