FIX: Creating a New Unique Named Pipe Alias Displays the Default Pipe Value Instead of the Entered Value (289851)

SYMPTOMS

The Client Configuration Utility may display an incorrect pipe name if a new named pipe alias is created specifying a unique pipe.

For example, create a new alias and use named pipe as the Network Library. In the pipe name parameter, enter a custom value such as:

\\test\sql\123test

After you save the alias, click Edit to look at the properties of the alias.

The pipe name always displays \\servername\sql\pipe\query as the parameter. However, the value is saved correctly in the registry.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
