Error Message About Missing Pdlwemsg.dll File Appears When You Start Windows Me (289846)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Windows Millennium Edition (Me) on a computer that has IBM's PComm installed, you may receive the following error message:
A required dll file has not been found: pdlwemsg.dll
The error message appears twice, and then the computer successfully loads Windows Me.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, remove and then reinstall the PComm program after you install Windows Me.

If removing and reinstalling PComm does not resolve this behavior, remove the registry key that is associated with PComm:

  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate and click the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

  3. Remove the value that contains the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\pcssfrrx.exe path.
