SUMMARY

If you try to install the Exchange 2000 version of Exchange System Manager on a computer that Exchange Server version 5.5 is installed on, the only option that is available in the installation wizard is upgrading the entire Exchange Server computer; an option to install only Exchange System Manager is not available.

This behavior is by design. You can install Exchange System Manager in the following configurations:
  • As a stand-alone program on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional or Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • As an upgrade of a stand-alone Exchange Server 5.5 Exchange Server Administrator program.
  • As part of a new installation of Exchange 2000 Server.
  • As part of an upgrade of an Exchange Server 5.5 computer to Exchange 2000 Server.
