FIX: COM+ Application Proxy Does Not Register CLSID After You Install COM+ Rollup Hotfix 5 (289821)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to run a COM+ client from a remote computer that is running Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows Millennium Edition, you may receive error 463 "Class not registered on local machine" or error 429 "ActiveX component can't create object" with a Microsoft Visual Basic client. Or, you may receive the "Class not registered" (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG 0x80040154) error with a Microsoft Visual C++ client. This can occur when you use an application proxy that is generated after you install the hotfix that is referenced in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

CAUSE

This problem occurs because COM+ Application Proxy does not register the CLSID, ProgID and typelibID.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The fix is included after COM+ build version 2000.2.3475. You must regenerate the application proxy after you install this fix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
