Computer with More Than 10 USB Printers May Not Print Correctly (289777)

SYMPTOMS

If more than 10 USB printers are connected to a computer, Windows does not load the Usbprint.sys driver, and USB printing functionality does not work.

CAUSE

Usbprint.sys has a hard-coded limit that prevents more than 10 devices from being connected. Without this limit, up to 127 devices can be connected as per the USB specifications.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
