XCON: MTA May Crash When You View Exchange 2000 X.400 Queues in Exchange Server 5.5 Exchange Server Administrator Program (289746)

SYMPTOMS

If you connect to a Exchange Server 5.5 computer by using the Exchange Server 5.5 Exchange Server Administrator program, browse to an Exchange 2000 server in the same site and click X.400, click the Queues tab, and then click the queue for the Exchange Server 5.5 computer in the Exchange 2000 Server queues, the Exchange MTA Stacks (MSExchangeMTA) service may stop.

The following error message may be logged in the Application event log:
Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeMTA Event Category: Directory Access Event ID: 155 Date: 11/01/2000 Time: 8:45:00 AM User: N/A Computer: server_name Description: An error occurred while reading information for directory name (DN) from the directory. [MTA OPERATOR 21 38] (12)

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

After you apply Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server SP1, you may receive the following error message:
The Administrator program could not connect to server server_name. Be sure the message transfer agent service is running on server_name.
