Troubleshooting Information

Meaning: The Application Center Name Resolution Service has detected that NetBIOS is disabled on the management network adapter.

Effect: Name resolution and intracluster communication will not work properly until the problem is fixed. For reliable network name resolution, NetBIOS should be enabled on the management network adapter. If the Application Center NetBT-Based Name Resolution service is enabled, it will automatically attempt to enable NetBIOS.

Possible Causes and Solutions

NetBIOS is disabled: NetBIOS is disabled on the management network adapter.

To enable NetBIOS:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, point to Network and Dialup Connection, and right-click the network adapter.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. If the NetBIOS (or NWLink NetBIOS) protocol is in the Components list, make sure that it is selected. If it is not, continue with the next step.
  4. On the Properties sheet, click Install.
  5. In the Select Network Components Type dialog box, select Protocol, and then click Add.
  6. In the Select Network Protocol dialog box, select NWLink NetBIOS, and then click OK.
