This article was previously published under Q289674 SYMPTOMS
After you delete all of the shortcuts except My Handheld PC and Recycle Bin from the desktop of a Handheld PC (H/PC) 2000 device, the My Handheld PC and Recycle Bin icons may disappear after you "soft" reset the device.
RESOLUTION
To restore the My Handheld PC and Recycle Bin icons on the device, follow these steps:
- On the H/PC 2000 device, tap Start, tap Programs, and then tap Windows Explorer.
- Tap the My Documents folder, tap Send To on the File menu, and then tap Desktop as Shortcut.
- "Soft" reset the H/PC 2000 according to the manufacturer's documentation. The My Handheld PC and Recycle Bin icons should return to the desktop.
Note that you must have at least one folder or shortcut on the desktop in addition to the My Handheld PC and Recycle Bin icons, or else the problem will reoccur.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
You may experience this problem after you follow performance suggestions that you find in third-party documentation, Web sites, or newsgroups. These suggestions instruct users to remove all folders from the desktop on H/PC Pro devices to speed screen-repaint rates. Applying these same steps on an H/PC 2000 device causes all desktop icons to disappear.
