Storage Card Folder Names May Change in Windows CE (289592)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE 3.0 Professional Edition for the Handheld PC
  • Microsoft Windows CE 3.0 for the Handheld PC 2000

This article was previously published under Q289592

SYMPTOMS

When you are using two storage cards, the folder names that represent the storage cards may change from the original names when you suspend and resume your computer. For example, the names "Storage Card" and "Storage Card2" may change to "Storage Card3" and "Storage Card22."

CAUSE

Windows CE uses card and folder names based on information that is obtained from the inserted cards. When you use cards from the same manufacturer that have the same capacity, Windows CE cannot distinguish the difference between the two cards. Therefore, the folder names that represent the two cards may change from the original names, depending on the order in which the cards were inserted.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
