FP2002: Visiting Users Top Ten List Contains No Data (289524)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 2002

This article was previously published under Q289524

SYMPTOMS

The Visiting Users Top Ten list contains no data, although other Top Ten lists do contain data.

CAUSE

If anonymous browsing is turned on (which is standard for most public Web sites), there is no logged-on user information in the log files. This user information is derived from users who have been authenticated on the Web server.

RESOLUTION

If you want to track the logged-on user information, you must turn off anonymous browsing, and each visitor to your Web site must be given a user account to log on with.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior is by design. Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional does not turn on the logging of this property by default.

To enable Microsoft Internet Information Services to collect this user information, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services.
  2. Right-click Default Web Site, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu.
  3. Click the Web Site tab, and then select the Enable Logging check box, if that check box is not already selected.
  4. Click Properties for W3C Extended Log File Format.
  5. Click the Extended Properties tab, and then make sure that the User Name property is selected.
