OFFXPDEV: Uninstalling Office 2000 Developer 1.5 VBA Tools Removes Office XP Developer String Editor (289519)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Office XP Developer and set all Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) tools to load on startup, if you then uninstall Microsoft Office 2000 Developer Edition 1.5, the VBA tools are no longer set to load on startup. When you try to set the String Editor to load on startup, you receive the following error message:
String Editor is no longer available.

CAUSE

Although Office 2000 Developer 1.5 and Office XP Developer each contain individual add-ins for almost all the VBA tools, there is only one String Editor add-in for both versions.

RESOLUTION

To restore the String Editor, reinstall Office XP Developer. Then click to select the Load On Startup option.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Office XP Developer.

  1. Install Office 2000 Developer Edition 1.5 VBA tools.
  2. Install Office XP Developer VBA tools.
  3. Open the Add-in Manager, and then set all VBA tools to load on startup.
  4. Uninstall Office 2000 Developer Edition 1.5 VBA tools.
  5. Open the Add-in Manager and note that all VBA tools are no longer set to load on startup.
  6. Try to set the String Editor to load on startup. Note that you receive the following error message:
    String Editor is no longer available.
