OFFXPDEV: The Microsoft Development Environment Does Not Open (289515)

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Development Environment does not to open.

CAUSE

You uninstalled the Access Workflow Designer Tools that is installed with Microsoft Office 2000 Developer, after you installed Microsoft Office XP Developer.

Uninstalling the Access Workflow Designer Tools removes the following key from the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Developer

This key is also used by Microsoft Office XP Developer, and removing it causes the Microsoft Development Environment to fail to open.

RESOLUTION

Use the Repair/Reinstall tool for Microsoft Office XP Developer to re-create the registry hive to fix the problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. On a computer with the Access Workflow Designer Tools from Office 2000 Developer installed, install Microsoft Office XP Developer.
  2. Uninstall Access Workflow Designer Client-Tools.
  3. Open the Microsoft Development Environment.

    Note that the Microsoft Development Environment fails to open.
