SYMPTOMS

Typically, a program can use the Win32_Processor class in the root\cimv2 namespace to identify the type of processor that is installed in a computer. However, on some Intel Pentium III-based computers, the Name property is not populated with the expected detail. The "Unknown Intel P6 processor" string is used instead.

CAUSE

Changes in the newer Intel Pentium III processors expose a limitation in the Win32 provider's CPU identification implementation.
