PRB: PocketPC Cannot View Pages on Local Web Server (289482)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows CE for the Pocket PC
This article was previously published under Q289482 SYMPTOMS
When you try to view a Web page on Internet Explorer for the Pocket PC via localhost, a message box may appear that says "This page cannot be found."
This only happens when the HTTP request is to a localhost address and the device is not connected to a network. If a dial-up connection has been established or if a network card has been inserted, then Internet Explorer will retrieve and display the pages served by the localhost server or proxy.
CAUSE
Pocket Internet Explorer will detect if there is a network connection established. If there is none Internet Explorer will immediately abort navigating to the supplied URL address.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
Some developers employ a design that puts a Web server or a custom HTTP proxy server process on a Pocket PC device. But, as noted previously, Internet Explorer for the Pocket PC will not retrieve the data served though a localhost address. Instead Pocket Internet Explorer will display the error message "This page cannot be found."
