To use RealPlayer streaming audio in Proxy 2.0, you must install the WinSock Proxy (WSP) client computer. Use the configurations for Proxy Server and RealPlayer G2 that are described in this section.

How to Configure Proxy Server

  1. Start the Internet Service Manager in Internet Information Services (IIS) 3.0 (or the Management console in IIS 4.0), right-click WinSock Proxy Service, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Service tab, and then click Client Configuration.
  3. Click Client connects to Microsoft WinSock Proxy Server by Computer name, and then verify that the NetBIOS name of the computer is displayed in the box on the right side.
  4. Click Automatically configure Web browser during client setup, and then verify that the NetBIOS name of the Proxy Server computer is displayed in the Proxy box.
  5. Verify that the correct port number has been entered for the Proxy Server computer (generally port 80).
  6. Click Configure Web browsers to use Automatic Configuration.
  7. If a RealServer computer is not located inside the proxy or firewall, proceed to step nine. If a RealServer computer is located inside the proxy or firewall, click Properties.
  8. Click Do not use proxy for the following IP addresses, type the IP address of the RealServer computer that is inside the proxy firewall, and then click OK.
  9. Click the Protocols tab, click the first RealAudio entry in the list, and then click Edit.
  10. Verify that the initial connection is set to port 554 and that the type is set to TCP outbound.
  11. Click and remove all entries in the Port ranges for subsequent connections box.
  12. Click Add, type UDP 6970-32000 inbound, and then click OK.
  13. Click Add, type TCP 6970-32000 inbound, and then click OK.
  14. Click the only remaining RealAudio computer in the list, and then click Edit.
  15. Verify that the initial connection is set to port 7070 and that the type is set to TCP.
  16. Click and remove all entries in the Port ranges for subsequent connections box.
  17. Click Add, type TCP 6970-7170 inbound, and then click OK.
  18. Click Add, type UDP 6970-7170 inbound, and then click OK.

How to Configure RealPlayer G2 (and Later Versions)

  1. On the client computer, open Control Panel, and then double-click the WSP icon.
  2. Verify that the server's NetBIOS name is displayed in the Server Name box.
  3. Click to select the Enable WinSock Proxy Client check box, and then click Update Now.
  4. Restart the client, and then start RealPlayer.
  5. In RealPlayer, click Options (or View for RealPlayer version 7 and later), and then click Preferences.
  6. Click the Proxy tab, and then verify that the PNA Proxy and RTSP Proxy check boxes are cleared and that the No HTTP Proxy option is enabled.
  7. Click the Transport tab, and then click Automatically select the most efficient transport.
  8. Click Auto Configure, and then click OK.
  9. After the automatic configuration procedure is completed, click OK.
RealPlayer G2 (and later versions) is now configured to work with Proxy Server.

Alternatively, you can also use the following procedure to configure RealPlayer G2 (and later versions):
  1. Open Control Panel, and then double-click the WSP icon.
  2. Verify that the server's NetBIOS name is displayed in the Server Name box.
  3. Click to select the Enable WinSock Proxy Client check box, and then click Update Now.
  4. Restart the client computer, and then start RealPlayer.
  5. In RealPlayer, click Options (or View for RealPlayer version 7 and later), and then click Preferences.
  6. Click the Proxy tab, and then click Manually configure HTTP Proxy.
  7. Type the NetBIOS name of the Proxy Server computer in the Proxy Server box.
  8. Type port 80 in the Port box, and then click OK.
  9. After the auto configuration procedure is completed, click OK.
