SUMMARY

When you save a Microsoft Excel workbook as an interactive Web page, you'll notice that the Web page version contains additional controls. One of these controls, the Commands and Options dialog box, was called the Property Toolbox in earlier versions of Excel. This article explains the new functionality in the Commands and Options dialog box.

MORE INFORMATION

When you open an interactive Web page created by Excel, Microsoft Internet Explorer uses the Microsoft Office Spreadsheet Component ActiveX control to display the information. The Commands and Options button is on the toolbar at the top of spreadsheet. The following tabs are all located in the Commands and Options dialog box.

New Features on the Format Tab

The Format tab has a new control for manipulating text direction as follows:
  • Left to right.
  • Right to left.
  • Based on context, the default direction for the language.
This control can be used to change the text direction in a cell, a range of cells, or the spreadsheet if the text direction is incorrect.

New Features on the Formula Tab

Excel preserves names in formulas when exporting to interactive Web pages. The Formula tab includes controls for names that allow you to do the following:
  • Define new names for values and ranges.
  • Modify existing names.
  • Remove existing names.
The Formula in active cell box is still used to display the formula. You edit the formula in the active cell after you double-click the cell, not in the Commands and Options dialog box.

The Microsoft Office Spreadsheet Component control now supports array formulas as follows:
  • Excel preserves array formulas when exporting to interactive Web pages.
  • Array formulas can be added to interactive Web pages.
  • Array formulas are properly displayed within braces ({}) in the Formula in active cell box.
For more information about array formulas, click Microsoft Excel Help on the Help menu, type array formulas in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.

New Features on the Sheet Tab

The Sheet tab has two new options for searching:
  • The Match case option to find cells by performing a case-sensitive search.
  • The Entire cell only option to find cells that contain only the value that you entered and nothing else.

New Features on the Workbook Tab

The Microsoft Office Spreadsheet Component control now supports multiple worksheets. New features on the Workbook tab allow you to do the following:
  • Insert new worksheets.
  • Delete existing worksheets.
  • Hide visible worksheets.
  • Display hidden worksheets.
  • Reorder worksheets in the list.
