SUMMARY

This article describes how to set up round robin video for Exchange 2000 Server.

MORE INFORMATION

If you use Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server and an H.323 video connection for a conference with more than two participants, the person who is shown in the Remote Video window is chosen based on the active talker routine. Simply put, the person who is speaking is usually the person who is shown in the remote video window.

You can make certain changes to the active talker routine so that the remote video is shown on a round robin basis. These changes switch the remote video between all of the participants in a conference on a schedule. To make these changes, you need to edit the registry.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To change the active talker routing on Exchange 2000 Server to show the remote video on a round robin basis:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate and click the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Conferencing\Parameters

NOTE: If the following values already exist in the preceding key, you only need to change the value data accordingly.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:

Value name: Active Talker Switch Type
    Data type: REG_DWORD
    Radix: Binary
    Value data: 0

The value to show the remote video on a round robin basis is 0, the default value is 1.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:

    Value name: Round Robin Time
    Data type: REG_DWORD
    Radix: Hexadecimal
    Value data: 1e

This REG_DWORD value is the time between switches in seconds in hexadecimal format.
  5. Quit Registry Editor.
