SYMPTOMS

When you have a PCI modem installed, the Allow device to wake from standby check box on the Power Management tab for the device is selected (checked) by default. If you click to clear this check box and then reboot, the Allow device to wake from standby option for the device is selected again.

In addition, the computer may stop responding (hang) when it uses the PCI modem to wake from standby.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.

This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
