System Hangs If Services.exe Experiences an Access Violation (289179)

SYMPTOMS

The system may stop responding (hang) if Services.exe experiences an access violation. The only option is to reboot the computer.

CAUSE

This can occur if a malicious or improperly written program or utility passes an invalid parameter to the NetUseEnum function.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
