SYMPTOMS

If you apply a three-dimensional (3-D) style effect to any object that contains a fill effect, or apply a fill effect to an object that has 3-D formatting, the line color for the object is not visible. Also, when you change the color of the line on a 3-D shape in the Format AutoShape window, the 3-D object does not reflect the change that you made.

CAUSE

Three-dimensional objects with any fill color or fill effect applied to them do not display an applied line color.

WORKAROUND

To display the line color of a 3-D object, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Set the Fill Color to "No Fill"

  1. Select your shape, and then click AutoShape on the Format menu.
  2. In the Fill section of the Colors and Lines tab, select No Fill on the Color list.
  3. Click OK.

Method 2: Change the 3-D Style to "3-D Style #4 (Wireframe Only)"

  1. Select Shadow Style on the Formatting toolbar.
  2. Choose a shadow style.
  3. Click AutoShape on the Format menu.
  4. Change the line color, and then click OK.
  5. Click 3-D Style on the Formatting toolbar.
  6. Click 3-D Style #4 (Wireframe Only).
