PUB2002: Publisher Stops Responding When You Select a Font Scheme (289032)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Publisher, when you select a font scheme in the Font Schemes task pane, Publisher may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This behavior can occur after you install Microsoft Publisher 2002 or upgrade from an earlier version of Publisher, and you have not yet restarted your computer. It is possible for the font cache to become corrupted during the installation of Publisher. If one of the fonts in a font scheme is in a corrupted font cache, Publisher stops responding when the font is selected because it cannot load the font when the cache is corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, restart your computer. A new font cache is created each time that the computer is started, and any corrupted font data in an old font cache is deleted during startup.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
