This article was previously published under Q289031

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start a new section in Microsoft Publisher publication, the new section always starts with an even-numbered (left side) page. This behavior occurs even when you select an odd-numbered (right side) page to start the new section.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you insert a section break into a publication while you are viewing the publication as a two-page spread (click to select the Two-Page Spread check box on the View menu). Publisher is designed to always start a new section with an even-numbered page when it is viewed as a two-page spread.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. On the View menu, click to clear the Two-Page Spread check box.
  2. On the Page Navigation bar, click the page that you want the new section to start from.
  3. On the Insert menu, click Section.
  4. In the Section dialog box, click to select the Begin a section with this page check box.
  5. Make the other selections that you want in this dialog box, and then click OK.
  6. On the View menu, click to select the Two-Page Spread check box. The new section starts on the page that you want, even if it is an odd-numbered page.
For more information about changing the page number that a section starts with, click Microsoft Publisher Help on the Help menu, type move a page in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topics returned.
