PUB2002: Color Separations of Encapsulated PostScript (.eps) Images Are Not Displayed Correctly in Print Preview (289029)

SYMPTOMS

When you view an image by Color Separation in the Print Preview window, each selected Spot displays the entire image.

You expect only the selected color separated portion of the image to be displayed.

When you print, the selected color separation is printed correctly.

CAUSE

This problem can occur in the following situation:
  • You select a color PostScript printer as the default printer.

    -and-
  • You are viewing an Encapsulated Postscript (.eps) image file.

    -and-
  • You have configured color printing to print colors as Spot colors.

    NOTE: To view this setting, point to Commercial Printing Tools on the Tools menu, and then click Color Printing.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Select a non-PostScript color printer as the default printer.
  2. Start Publisher 2002, and then open the file that you want. The color separations of the .eps image now appear correctly when viewed in Print Preview.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
