This article was previously published under Q289016

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Web page in Microsoft Internet Explorer, and then use the Copy and Paste commands to paste the Web page into a Microsoft Publisher publication, you may receive an error message similar to the following
Microsoft Publisher has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
and Publisher quits unexpectedly.

If you restart Publisher and again attempt to paste the Web page that is still in the Clipboard into a publication, the Web page is now pasted successfully, and Publisher does not quit unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you copy a Web page from Internet Explorer, attempt to paste the Web page into a Publisher publication, and then quit Internet Explorer before the paste operation is completed.

This behavior is most likely to occur with Web pages that are large enough to take several seconds to finish pasting into a publication.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, make sure that you do not quit Internet Explorer while you are pasting a Web page into Publisher. To avoid accidentally doing so, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Wait until you are certain that the paste operation is finished before you quit Internet Explorer.

Method 2

After you copy the Web page that you want, quit Internet Explorer before you attempt to paste the Web page into Publisher.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
