The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q289007 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Publisher, when you import a Microsoft Word document into a publication, the drawings or shapes that were in the Word document do not appear in the publication.
CAUSE
This problem can occur because Word exports all drawings and shapes as Word 95 drawing data when a document is saved as a .doc file type. Publisher is not designed to read Word 95 drawing data.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, save the Word document as a Rich Text Format (.rtf) file type, and then import the document into Publisher. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start Word and open the document that you want.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- In the Save As dialog box, click Rich Text Format in the Save as type box, and then click Save.
- Start Publisher.
- On the File menu, click Import Word Document.
- Browse to the .rtf file that you saved in step 3, and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
