XL2002: Cannot Use Speech to Format Font Color (288984)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2002

This article was previously published under Q288984

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you attempt to format a font color with a voice command, the color palette appears, but you cannot select a specific color with a voice command.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because colors cannot be accessed from within color palettes by Voice Command mode in Microsoft Office 2002. You can use a voice command to access the color palettes through regular dialog box items such as Font Color, but you cannot then select a color from the palette because the color palette is not a list.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Say the directional commands "up", "down", "right" and "left" to navigate to the color that you want to select.
  2. Say "enter" to select the color.

MORE INFORMATION

To turn on Voice Command mode, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Speech, and then click Speech Recognition.
  2. On the Language bar, click Voice Command.
