PRB: "Report could not connect to data source" Error When Executing a Commerce 2000 Dynamic Report (288825)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to execute a Commerce Server 2000 dynamic report, you may receive the following error message:
The pivot list table <report name> could not connect to the data source '<data source name>'. For information about the data source, consult the creator of the file.
0x800a0bcd: either BOF or EOF is True or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation contains a current record".
When you attempt to execute a Commerce Server 2002 dynamic report, you may receive the following error message:
Cube '<name of the cube>' cannot be queried. Have your Business Desk administrator check that the cube exists, is processed and contains data. Cubes should be processed by running the appropriate Commerce Server DTS tasks.
This error indicates that the report that you are attempting to run depends on an Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) cube (specified in the <data source name>) that did not process successfully.

CAUSE

The specified OLAP cube may not have been successfully processed for any of the following reasons:
  • The data warehouse has not been populated with site/report data that is needed to produce the specified report. For more information, see "Importing Data into the Data Warehouse" in the Commerce Server 2000 or Commerce Server 2002 Help.
  • The Commerce Server Report Preparation Data Transformation Services (DTS) task was not executed. This DTS task processes all of the OLAP cubes and populates each cube with data.
  • The data in the data warehouse is corrupted. You must run the Commerce Server Data Deletion DTS task and then reimport the data into the data warehouse.
After you determine which of the preceding causes applies to your environment, and you perform the necessary recovery steps, you are able to successfully produce your desired dynamic report.
