OFF2001: Computer Stops at Startup with Microsoft Office Manager Installed on OS 9.1 (288803)

If you try to upgrade your computer from Macintosh OS 9.0 or earlier to OS 9.1, and the Microsoft Office Manager from Office 2001 for Mac is installed, your computer may stop responding (hang) when the Office Manager menu becomes visible at startup. Your only option is to restart the computer.
CAUSE
This problem can occur if the following conditions exist: - You upgraded from Mac OS 9.0 or earlier to OS 9.1 with the Microsoft Office Manager installed.
-or- - You have one of the following programs installed:
- POPChar Pro/Lite version 1.3.1
- Snapz Pro
- Adobe Type Reunion
- OneClick
- Logitech Mouseware 3.5.1 or 3.5.1a
-and- - You downloaded the Microsoft Office Manager for Office 2001 from the Microsoft MacTopia Web site between September 6, 2000, and March 26, 2001.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, you must upgrade from Microsoft Office Manager 9.0 to Microsoft Office Manager 9.0.1. Use one of the following methods to do this:
- Remove Microsoft Office Manager for Office 2001 from your Control Panels folder, and then reinstall it from the following location:
- Download and install Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 from the following Microsoft Web site:
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
