  • Microsoft Entourage 2001 for Mac

WARNING:This information is preliminary and has not been confirmed or tested by Microsoft. Use only with discretion.

SYMPTOMS

When you try to check the spelling of text in an Entourage message, spelling errors are not located although you see that there are misspelled words. When you verify the Spelling options, you find that the language has changed. In addition, the option to select the previously configured dictionary language may not be available. The Proofing Tools settings appear to be available in Microsoft Word 2001.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Preferences file in the current identity is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, remove the Preferences file from the identity, and restart Entourage.

NOTE: If you remove the Preferences file and allow a new one to be regenerated during Startup, you must re-enter the e-mail account information. This does not affect messages and other data that you have stored in the identity.

MORE INFORMATION

The options for locations of the Proofing Tools, including the Custom Dictionary, are stored in the Identity Preferences file. The identity Preferences file is stored in the following path:

<Hard Drive>;Documents:Microsoft User Data:Office 2001 Identities:<Identity Name>

How to Rebuild the Identity Preferences File

Use the following steps to rebuild the Identity Preferences file:
  1. Quit Entourage, and then locate the Preferences file in the currently active identity.
  2. Drag the Preferences file to the Trash icon on your Apple Macintosh desktop.
  3. Restart Entourage. The Setup Assistant rebuilds the account for this identity.
